exciting news!
Today, I was working on a post for you all about being addicted to noise & internal chaos & busyness & stimulation. (I promise to get that to you later this week.)
It got me thinking about the ways we choose to spend our time—how often we reach for our phone at a traffic light, or lay in front of the TV without talking to our spouses, or just surround ourselves with constant motion.
[I, perhaps, am one of the worst offenders. When I wake up in the night to feed Alden, I check my email, my Instagram, and my Facebook before closing my eyes again. WHY? This is not healthy. My brain is a dopamine junkie.]
There is a better way. Better than consuming is creating. Better than numbing-out is pulling up a chair and communing with others. In the wintertime especially, it’s important to build rhythms and habits that promote wholeness, wellness, and inner shalom.
That’s why I’m hosting The Second Cup’s FIRST EVER Poetry JAM & SLAM.
It will be a 6-week session of creation, collaboration, and celebration, where we get together and JAM out poetry in community, and then SLAM it open-mic style afterward.
JAM
Each week will have a unique theme/prompt, and you'll be invited to spend the first half of the session working on poetry related to that theme, or to use that time and space to work on your personal poetry pursuits.
SLAM
After we jam, we'll come together to celebrate our progress on our poems. All will be welcome to share what you’ve crafted during the jam—messy first drafts are totally acceptable!—or to share another poem that you’ve been working on outside of the session.
who should come?
You. Because here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter whether you have released your own poetry books or have never written a poem in your life. This JAM & SLAM is meant to be creatively invigorating and fun. No experience required for that!
Please note: There are only 40 available slots, so that these sessions can stay intimate and so that we can build real connections with one another.
where/when will we meet?
We'll meet online via ZOOM each Thursday from 8-9 PM (EST) starting on February 15, 2024 and ending on March 21, 2024.
count me in. how do I register?
You can choose to sign up for all 6 sessions, or to sign up for just 1 or a few.
The cost is $39 for all six sessions, or a drop-in of $8/session.
If you are a paid subscriber, guess what? It’s free for you. You guys are the best. Underneath the paywall on this post, I’ll include the coupon code that you will enter when you register so that you won’t have to pay a thing.
If you have been thinking about supporting The Second Cup for a while now, and would like to join the JAM & SLAM, today would be the perfect day to make the jump! You’ll get unlimited access to all The Second Cup content, plus score a beautiful, dedicated space to create & connect with other incredible creatives.
