A trick to help you pray
spoken word poetry + zoom link for tomorrow's Office Hour with an Editor
Hi, I’m Deidre! I love to share theology and poetry. I’m also a seminary student, editor, first-time author, wife, and mom. And I’m happy you’re here. I hope you’ll stick around for the long haul!
First, I want to invite you to tomorrow’s (Wednesday, February 18) Office Hour with an Editor.
It’s kind of like office hours with a professor. The idea is you just drop in and I answer your questions about writing, publishing, editing, nonfiction book proposals, finding an agent, collaborating with other writers. That kind of thing. It’s casual. It’s fun. It’s friendly. And, I hope, it’s HELPFUL.
I offer these twice a month for paid subscribers, but guess what? Tomorrow is open to ANYONE. Anyone! Come one! Come all! Come see what it’s all about!
We’ll meet on Zoom from 1:30-2:30 PM (EST). Here’s the link. I hope you’ll come.
Second, I thought it would be fun to share some spoken word poetry with you this week.
Last month, I had the honor of leading a workshop on poetry as prayer at a women’s wellness day at a church in my hometown in Northern Maine.
One of the strategies I shared was an idea I learned from Tim Keller and his book on prayer (aptly named Prayer). The idea is to pray through the Lord’s Prayer and then personalize each section as you go, really putting yourself in a position that asks, “But what does that really mean? What would that really look like?”
I wrote more about prayer, and specifically this strategy, in a post from January 2024. There, you can read the entire poem I share in the video above. But if you’re in the mood to just listen today, I hope you will. Sometimes it’s nice to rest and just have someone speak words over you. We all do so much.
Thanks for stopping by. If you plan to come to Office Hours, please drop a comment below and say so! If you were inspired to write your own Lord’s Prayer poem, would you tell me about that too? And finally, if this meant something to you today—would you share it with a friend? I can’t tell you how far that goes.
Sending love!
Deidre

I’ll be there! Excited to begin Lent with Office Hours with Professor Braley! I’ll be bringing my own embodied Lord’s Prayer poem to share as well!
Wow. Thanks for sharing this inspiring Lord’s Prayer poem. Moving and deeply resonant.
