I loved your essay Deidre!! This is a topic that so many of us think about but, rarely discuss. I was blessed with some AMAZING friends that I met in middle and high school. We went on to college and motherhood together. The only problem is...we all live in different cities! It's heartbreaking because if they lived near me we would be living life together daily. And so would our babies :). But, they get me and love me well. We text and call everyday. So I think in a way I compare new friendships to my solid best friends since I was 12. I know the Lord wants me to find that locally too. There is nothing like meeting a friend for coffee or wine and talking life for hours. It's a special time that can inspire, heal, and encourage all at once! One technique I have tried this past year is just to be the best friend I can to others. Women I think the Lord has put in my life for a reason. Not trying to get anything in return but just so they would feel seen and loved. It has brought me so much joy and I have made closer friends this year than I have in a long time. I think it was an important lesson from a loving God. We should focus more on loving others than filling our own cup. Jesus was the best example of this!
Brooke, I can relate to so much of what you're saying. I agree—being an incredible friends to others is probably the best place to start with making friends. And we have the world's greatest model for this, in Jesus. ❤️
I will say, it does make me tremble a little, as I also have New England blood.
But, in a good way.
I’ve lamented to my husband on more than one occasion about this very topic. It sure is a lot harder making friends as an adult, but as you conveyed so well, we just aren’t forthright! But we could be.
And oh, the poem. What a thrilling idea!
I really feel I do know you a bit better having read it.
Your words sparkle like the best 15.99 wine (also usually my fave kind, just saying) 💝
Oh my word, this essay and the poem are so readable, funny spot on, I love it
Love this and your poem. Now I’m thinking about writing one of my own 🤔🥰
I would love to read it when you do, Kristi!

Ashley, what I'm hearing from this is that we need to meet each other in real life and drink $15.99 wine together. Yes?
Absolutely 💝
