Yes! I am NOT a morning person, but in the summer when it gets light early, I actually relish my morning garden ritual. There is something very grounding about saying good morning to my plants, filling the bird feeders, and helping the beans twine up the trellis. On an ideal day, I sit out in the garden with my tea and a good book, but that is a rare luxury.
Oh, I agree. The early morning light is so helpful, and what a wonderful way to get grounded for the day ahead. And yes—tea and a book in the garden are a supreme luxury!
"we will be human together, and that will be enough for a while." I think you've caught it all here... delight, community, solace, wonder and a sense of place to pull it all together. so lovely! <3
Beautiful gardens and morning time. I love my flowers to from the previous owner and some that maybe came from the wind. And rhe ones in our minds too!!!
My gardens are nothing much, truly, but boy. They make my heart leap. I've been away for a couple days this week, and when I got home, my first thought was, "What have my flowers been up to?" I couldn't wait to make the rounds.
Oh, how lovely. I also love to walk with my mom through hers. When I went home this week, she dug up some lily of the valley and sent it home with me. I plan to plant it today, and I will think of her whenever I see it.
Oh, I love to hear that. And yes! May I make a suggestion? Zinnias are AMAZING because they require little care but are so prolific! The more you cut them, the more they grow, so you can have little vases of fresh flowers all through your house. They're lovely!
This was a delight to read…it made me want to be right there in your gardens with you! So good.
Thank you, Sam. I wish you WERE in my gardens with me!

Civil, thank you. What is it about a garden that provides all these things? The smallest patch of dirt can bring soooo much delight.
Beautiful 😍 I want to say that about 5 times.
Oh my goodness, thank you, JoAnn ❤️
Lovely :) and there's really something special about touching flowers to feel that connection with their beauty!
I agree! I think I'm turning into one of those plant ladies that rubs and talks to my flowers. HA.

Isn't it so exciting to see what comes up when you haven't even planted it yourself? What a gift!
Yes and my husband just found a new flower all by itself.
Oh, so lovely…sigh.

I feel like I took a slow walk with you in your gardens! So beautiful. Reminds me of walks with my mom through her gardens. Thank you!

Sweet! I love lily of the valley. I love that your mom shared from her garden to yours.
Happy planting and happy writing!
Rennie
Your writing always has a way of slowing down my speeding heart and racing thoughts. Now I need to plant something.

Sounds like plant shopping is on the agenda for today!
Kicking tires and feeling a storm in your joints made me smile—how very midwestern of you! Beautiful words!
Does this mean I'd fit in okay in Oklahoma? I hope so. Some day I'll come visit and find out!
I feel refreshed reading this piece 💓
That is EXACTLY what I hoped for. Knowing you felt refreshed made me smile. Thanks for letting me know. So glad you're here, Katie.
Thanks Deidre! It's almost like a relaxation meditation. If you read it out and put the audio file up I would listen to it as one 😀
I really enjoyed this . You are such a beautiful writer. ♥️
Amanda, I'm so glad! Thank you for being here. ❤️
